Alcohol-Free Housing
Resolution
At the 89th
Grand Chapter Convention in Tampa, Florida the Chapters unanimously
supported the following resolution:
I. In recognition
of the work and efforts of the Executive Board on substance-free
Chapter Houses
WHEREAS, Phi
Kappa Sigma was founded upon the ideals of fellowship, leadership,
academic achievement and the character development of individuals,
in accordance with the goals, desires and ideals of our Founding
Brothers; and
WHEREAS, The
Brotherhood of Phi Kappa Sigma recognizes and acknowledges the
role and importance of the Executive Board of the Fraternity and
the decision making, authority of that body in order to effectuate
the aforesaid goals, desires and ideals; and
WHEREAS, The
Brotherhood appreciates the dedication of the Executive Board
as members of that Board and as Brothers; and
WHEREAS, in
1993 the Executive Board began to examine the options available
to deal with modem-day challenges of the Fraternity on college
campuses in order to both improve the image of the Fraternity
in the eyes of the communities and on the campuses on which our
Fraternity exists, as well as to promote a stronger focus on the
goals, desires and ideals on which the Fraternity was founded,
and to ensure the long-term success of the Fraternity;
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Brotherhood hereby fully supports and
endorses the decisions and initiatives of the Executive Board
in its adoption and promulgation of the policies and rules which
govern the manner in which the Fraternity exists, operates and
perpetuates, and specifically the institution in 1998 of the policy
for substance-free Chapter Houses.
