VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

How Volunteers are Improving Your Fraternity

Volunteer Application

Continuing in the spirit of improving the experience for all Phi Kaps, the Fraternity maintains its focus on increasing our volunteer ranks. Phi Kap's continued success is due to the ongoing contributions of volunteers. Paid staff simply cannot meet the needs as there are not enough hours in the day. Two goals we are focused on accomplishing for the 2010-2011 academic year are increasing the number of Chapter Alumni Advisory Boards at 25% of our current Chapters and implementing a volunteer alumni assessment tool. Encompassing every level of volunteer, from Board Members (Grand Officers) down to the newest Assistant Chapter Advisor, this number will help make the distribution of work easier to handle. Growing our volunteer base will allow volunteers to be more engaged by the Fraternity, and stay engaged, instead of getting burned out by an excessive strain on their limited time. Refining the volunteer recruitment and placement process has been another significant goal during the past year.

The current Director of Volunteers, Kevin Franke, (Alpha Epsilon - IIT '08), leads the charge in helping seek out and correctly place volunteers into needed roles. Wide ranges of opportunities exist, allowing alumni to help in roles that are aligned with the amount of time they are able to commit. From specific skill positions with an advisory board or housing corporation to national positions on committees and directing regional efforts, the Fraternity incorporates volunteer expertise at every level. If you are interested in helping the Fraternity through volunteering, we will cater to your skill set and availability. Re-engage with the Fraternity without being overwhelmed.

There are many opportunities to volunteer in support of Phi Kappa Sigma and our objectives. Whether you are a seasoned alumni, a recent graduate or an undergraduate, there is an opportunity to support your Fraternity and your fellow brothers. Consider one of the volunteer opportunities that are listed below.

Should you be interested or want further information, please contact the International Fraternity through email at staff@pks.org and by phone at 610.469.3282. You may also contact our Director of Volunteers, Kevin Franke at volunteer@pks.org.

Executive Board Committees

The Executive Board has appointed numerous committees to develop programs against our priority focus areas. These committees include:

  • Expansion (fraternity-wide)
  • Growth (chapter-specific)
  • Insurance Committee
  • Scholarship/Development Committee
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Development
  • Scepter (mentoring)
  • Alumni Committee
  • Grand Chapter Committee
  • Mitchell Chapter Standards (Chapter Standards & Development)
  • Real Estate Investment (National Housing Corp.)
  • Leadership & Academic Excellence (Member Development)

Committees meet on a regular basis via conference call to take action and develop programs for each of these critical areas. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and alumni Phi Kaps.

Special Services Volunteer

This is an informal opportunity for anyone that has special skills or services that the Fraternity needs. Examples include web site development, printing services, marketing, leadership training, etc. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and alumni Phi Kaps.

Chapter/Assistant Chapter Advisor

Chapter Advisors hold chapters together as our memberships transition every four years. Assistants reinforce this position, ensuring an experienced replacement and providing additional perspectives as members of advisory boards. This is an opportunity to get your feet wet while reconnecting with the Fraternity.

Assistant Grand Delta

Meeting the needs of a given region is very often too much work for one man.

This assistant position is another opportunity to get your feet wet as a volunteer while working for the health of the region and not just one specific chapter.

Campus Champion

An expansion volunteer, these alumni champions work with Expansion Committee and HQ to maintain strong local connections with campuses in which we are interested. They encourage local alumni groups, maintain contact with campuses, and meet with potentially interested students.
